You may ask: “How can I know for sure?” Dear friend, it is not only possible to know for sure that you are “saved”, but according to the Bible it is necessary that you have this assurance in your heart.

If I were to ask you “Are you married?” you would be able to answer me quickly, confidently and with a definite answer. If you were married there would have been a day and a time in your life when you officially made a covenant of marriage with another person - a day when you vowed your life and your love to them. You would know it happened and everyone else would know it because your spouse would be an obvious part of your life; and all your friends would know and see your love and commitment to them. Your life will have changed from that day forward.

Now let me ask you again, “Are you saved?” Has there been that day and time in your life when you received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior; when you said yes to His proposal of love and salvation to you and your life has been joined to His forever? If this day has happened in your life, you will definitely know it; your friends will know it and you will have the assurance of eternal life in your heart. Your sins will have been forgiven and you will have become a new creation in Christ. 2 Corinthians says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” Has this happened with you? Have you become a new creation in Christ? If not, then you are not saved and Heaven will not be your eternal home. I hope this is not the case for you, but if it is then the marriage proposal from Jesus to you still stands – it’s not too late.

What is Jesus offering you? Jesus is offering you eternal life as a free gift of love from Himself. You see, He died on the cross to pay the penalty for your sin against God. Romans says: “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” It all happens by humbling yourself and confessing that you indeed have sinned against God and are in need of His forgiveness which is offered ONLY through the blood of Jesus shed on your behalf on the cross. This new life He is offering you begins right here and right now. It’s kind of like if you were a poor pauper and you received a marriage proposal from a wealthy suitor who offers you incredible love and a brand new life where all of your needs will be met, physically, spiritually and emotionally. But you must walk away from your old life and enter into a covenant with Him to enter a brand new life with Him -- in a different home and different country. You will learn to live by a different standard, one driven by love instead of selfishness. But you must truly love, marry and devote your life to Him before all the benefits of marriage become yours. So it is with Jesus. Many want the benefits of marriage to Jesus without actually marrying Him, just like in our society today. Eternal life, however, can on be obtained as a benefit of marriage to Jesus Christ. In fact, in many places, the Bible refers to those who have received salvation in Jesus as His “Bride”. Even the great reception that will happen in Heaven when the saved arrive is described like this in Revelation 19:7: “Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready."

If you do not know for sure that you will go to Heaven, then I’m afraid that the reason is because you are not going. No one will accidentally arrive there. The marriage to Jesus must happen willfully and intentionally in this life, or you will not be welcomed into Heaven as the Bride of Christ.

If you have not received Jesus Christ as your Savior, then please do it now, before it's too late. His offer is still open to you. He loves you so very much.
